Sarah from Cambridge, MA

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

My name is Sarah M. I’m 34 years old and I live in Cambridge, MA.

Until Sarah Palin entered the presidential race as McCain’s running mate, I had high hopes for my country and for the world.

I thought American politics had moved beyond the low road tactics of the past eight years and was finally focused on issues that actually affect people, such as the economy.  I am, therefore, writing in a fairly pessimistic state of mind.

I will, for the sake of this blog, try to think about my hopes instead of my fears.

My hopes for the future include the following:

- the United States will not be left behind the rest of the world in scientific research.  We will embrace stem-cell research and find cures/treatments for many diseases.

- We will take steps towards energy independence by passing gov’t legislation that is unfriendly to fossil fuel energy producers (goal and gas) and friendly towards renewable energy such as wind & solar power.

- The United States gov’t will have a long-term view in how it meddles in the affairs of other countries.  What may be economically advantageous for us now could sow seeds of hatred that will grow and come back in the form of terrorism & wars.

- Gender and race will stop being big issues.  Voters will focus on political positions of candidates rather on their gender or race.
