Today from OH to MI to IN

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

Yesterday: Toledo OH to Canton MI to Fort Wayne IN where we arrived at the Comfort Inn at 2am – way too early to visit the Inn’s fabled “Fun Room.”

Great press coverage in OH beginning yesterday with an AP interview, a story in the Chicago Tribune, mentions on CBS, NBC, etc. Starting to have Sarahs and family members of Sarahs who read about the story, write in. Fantastic. I’d love to have parents and spouses of Sarahs write their story on the site as well.

We filmed Sarah MI with children from her neighborhood. She’s been a social worker for 20 years and a children’s social worker for the last 15. I’ve never met anyone as passionate about and dedicated to their work. She very much believes in Obama’s plan for quality education at a very young age.

We had dinner with Sarah at a local Indian neighborhood restaurant. Canton MI, where Sarah lives has a large and growing South East Asian community. Turns out Nic is a quarter Indian, so we knew exactly what to order.

After we went to debate viewing party. Everyone there volunteers with the Campaign in MI. I wish Obama’s closing remarks had been stronger. Simple and bulleted. Whether or not I believed what McCain said in his closing remarks, I could remember them. I think to reach people in these swing areas – Obama’s messaging needs to speak very simply to the core issues affecting people here, which are, no surprise, the economy first and the war second.

We’re doing more man on the street interviews. First interviewed a man and his son who share a shipping business and support McCain because they have always been Republicans and they think McCain is behind their business interests. Then two women who sat next to them who support Obama.

And then of course we asked everyone what would go in an Obama Burger. The women thought it should be some progressive, lean meat. There you go. Please stay tuned for these Man on the street interviews. It’s been hard to get good upload connection on the road – but we’ll keep them coming.
