Here’s how:

We’ve been spending some time in PA/Ohio the last couple days, we spent a tremendous amount of time negotiating internet hurdles but other than that, nothing too troubling from the road. TED Lectures and This American Life has been filling the gaps between blocks of frantic cellphone activity.

This is Brian, he was kind enough to talk to us about the political climate. And he sold us some lunch which worked out for both parties.

We’re getting some good footage and meeting some interesting folks. The hotel staff has been accommodating and the Sarahs have been great. Our street interviews should be catching up to us now we have found some decent upload speeds. We are sitting on a cache of photos as well that we will be getting out as sleep catches up with us.

I have been dubbed the oracle of navigation and frankly, I just read the signs. Personally I think this iPhone has gotten us out of more jams than my keen eye.

We been subsisting on Japanese food, infact we had Hibachi last night which was relief compared to our other late night options.

To be honest, this all began with my sister wondering if there were any other Sarah Palins in the country other than the one we know of very well by now.  Turns out I tracked down one Sarah Palin in Ohio, (Palin is her maiden name) but she had plans to vote for her namesake’s ticket. So the concept broadened to all women named Sarah in the swing states. Tanit, her boyfriend and I staked out a table at the local library, took out an atlas of the US, mapped out a swing-sate route, chose names of towns we liked along the way, then looked up dozens of women named Sarah. I was tasked with calling… all of them.

Out of the nearly 100 calls I made, wrong numbers, not interested, I found one wonderful Sarah in Indiana. She’s a 30-year-old single working mother of a boy with Autism and she’s voting for Barack Obama. She wanted so badly to be our IN Sarah, but works for the state and was concerned with publicly sharing her political views. So began the process of calling Obama headquarters offices. I asked them if they knew someone who knew someone whose name is Sarah and is voting for Obama. The emails started coming and so did the stories. Women concerned about the cost of health care, about the cost of education for the kids they teach, the kids they have or may one day have.  People whose families are their ultimate concern and who believe Obama and Biden are the very best choice.
